Keys and Osaka advance to US Open third round after tough matches

Madison Keys saved five match points to secure her place in the US Open third round, while Naomi Osaka also advanced after a three-set battle.

Madison Keys, seeded 22nd, overcame Hungary's world No 75 Anna Bondar in a second-round US Open match, saving five match points and winning in a deciding set tie-break with a score of 5-7 6-4 7-6(10-5). Keys secured her spot in the third round after coming from 5-3 down in the tie-break.

On Arthur Ashe Stadium, Naomi Osaka, a three-time major winner, survived a second-set challenge from Katerina Siniakova to win 6-2 5-7 6-1. Osaka will now face Belgium's Elise Mertens in the third round.

Elsewhere, 2022 champion Iga Swiatek advanced by defeating Nadia Podoroska 6-3 6-2. Swiatek is set to play 25th seed Marie Bouzkova next.
