Leeds Baby Bank receives 'phenomenal' support after break-in

A West Yorkshire charity has received £25,000 in donations and other support after laptops, phones, and tablets were stolen in a break-in.

  • Leeds Baby Bank in Armley was targeted between Thursday night and Friday morning.
  • Laptops, phones, and tablets were stolen, and a window was smashed with internal doors damaged.
  • The charity launched an online appeal, raising £25,000, and received offers of laptops and assistance with repairs.

A West Yorkshire charity, Leeds Baby Bank, has thanked people for their "phenomenal" generosity following a break-in at its Armley site. The incident, which occurred between Thursday night and Friday morning, resulted in the theft of laptops, phones, and tablets from the Wellington Road premises.

Sarah Cohen, unit manager, stated that she discovered a smashed window and two damaged internal doors upon arriving at work on Friday at 07:30 BST. Many soft toys and equipment in the family rooms had to be discarded due to broken glass.

Following the burglary, the charity, which supports families with children up to the age of five, launched an online appeal. This appeal has since raised £25,000, including a £1,000 donation from former Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford.

Leeds Baby Bank reported that the donations mean it can restart its work providing essential items. The charity also received offers of laptops, assistance with repairs, and a spike in donated baby items. West Yorkshire Police are continuing to investigate the break-in and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
