Liam McCracken, 25, from Liverpool, is scheduled to compete for a UFC contract on Dana White's Contender Series in Las Vegas today. This event comes three years after he was involved in a serious bus accident.
While on a run near his home, McCracken was hit by a bus and dragged 18 metres (60ft) for seven seconds. He was found unconscious and bleeding heavily under the vehicle.
The accident resulted in multiple injuries, including four fractures in his back, two slipped discs in his neck, three broken ribs, a broken pelvis, a broken nose, a ruptured anterior cruciate knee ligament, and a torn meniscus. Passers-by, including a paramedic, provided immediate assistance before an ambulance arrived.
McCracken will fight Mexican lightweight Silvestre Sanchez today. He returned to action almost two years after the accident, following multiple operations, physiotherapy, and training.
