The cast of Little Miss Sunshine, including Greg Kinnear, Toni Collette, Paul Dano, and Abigail Breslin, are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the indie hit. In a recent interview, the actors reminisced about the film's loose safety protocols, which included shooting driving scenes without proper safety measures.
Kinnear, 63, joked that the film was the 'most dangerous movie ever made' due to the lack of safety precautions. He recalled that every scene filmed in the van involved him actually driving, while the film's directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris 'contorted' in the car 'with a headset listening.'
The cast also recalled a risky situation on set, where Kinnear broke a traffic law during rehearsals for the sake of pulling a prank on Alan Arkin. Dano revealed that Kinnear drove through a full red light, refusing to pull over so Arkin could get out of the van to go to the toilet.
Kinnear previously opened up about the risks on the set of Little Miss Sunshine during a 2022 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. He joked that the film was the 'most dangerous film ever made' and that nobody was wearing seatbelts or had clearance on the highway.
Little Miss Sunshine is a critically acclaimed comedy-drama that premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival and has since won numerous awards, including several BAFTA nominations. The film is available to stream on Apple TV+ in the UK.
