LIV Golf has announced it has secured an unnamed lead investor to ensure the competition continues in 2027. This development follows the Saudi Public Investment Fund's (PIF) decision in April to end its multibillion-dollar backing at the close of the current season.
Chief executive Scott O'Neil confirmed that a signed agreement with the new investor has been approved by the LIV Golf board, with the transaction anticipated to conclude in September. No financial details of the investment have been released.
O'Neil also stated that LIV will make its players "majority equity holders" in the competition, a move he described as "a first for a major global sports league." The proposed deal with the lead investor is for "2027 and beyond."
The competition will see a reduction to 10 events from next season, comprising five in the United States and five held globally. This contrasts with the 14 events initially planned for the 2026 season, which saw June's New Orleans competition postponed.
