Liverpool have secured a season-long loan deal for Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo. The move comes as manager Andoni Iraola faces a lack of defensive options for the start of the new season.
Concerns surrounding France Under-21 defender Jérémy Jacquet, along with injuries to Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni, have left Liverpool short at the back. This follows the departure of Ibrahima Konaté on a free transfer to Real Madrid.
Araújo, a 27-year-old Uruguay international, is expected to complete his medical on Sunday after travelling to Merseyside. The agreement is believed to include an option for Liverpool to buy the defender at the end of the season. He made 11 league starts for Barcelona last season and has over 200 appearances for the club.
