Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has cast doubt on the availability of key forwards Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo for Sunday's highly anticipated clash against Manchester City. Both players returned prematurely from international duty due to injuries.
Isak, representing Sweden, suffered a thigh problem, while Gakpo, playing for the Netherlands, picked up an ankle injury. Iraola confirmed their current injury status, telling beIN Sports, "Now it's a matter of if they are going to recover in time to help us in the next game or not. But right now they are both injured."
The potential absence of Isak and Gakpo, alongside Hugo Ekitike's long-term Achilles injury, could leave Iraola without two senior forwards for what he described as the biggest game of his Liverpool career so far. Iraola also noted that his side has been unbeaten but has struggled to find their best form, while City have won all their recent games and are scoring many goals.
