Lord's Cricket Club and West Ham among firms owed £190m by Brewdog

Brewdog's collapse earlier this year has left unsecured creditors, including Lord's Cricket Club and West Ham United, owed a total of £189.9m, which administrators say will not be repaid.

  • Unsecured creditors of Brewdog are owed £189.9m, which will not be repaid due to insufficient funds.
  • Lord's Cricket Club is owed £420,000, while West Ham United is owed £12,000.
  • Brewdog was acquired by Tilray for £33m earlier this year, a significant drop from its previous £1bn valuation.

Lord's Cricket Club and West Ham United are among the notable organisations owed a collective £190m following the collapse of craft beer firm Brewdog earlier this year. Administrators AlixPartners have stated that unsecured creditors, who are owed £189.9m, will not receive repayment due to insufficient funds.

Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), based at Lord's Cricket Ground, is one of Brewdog's largest creditors, with £420,000 owed. The club ended its partnership with the brewer in March after just one season. Championship football club West Ham United is owed £12,000; Brewdog was announced as their official beer partner in 2025.

Other creditors include accounting firm EY, owed £360,000, and metal can supplier Ardagh Metal Packaging, owed over £2.9m. Tech giant Meta is owed £120,574, while supermarkets Tesco and Sainsbury's are owed £3,862 and £5,270 respectively. Brewing companies Molson Coors and Heineken are also facing shortfalls of £98,386 and £7,914.

US cannabis and drinks company Tilray acquired Brewdog for £33m earlier this year, a stark contrast to its previous £1bn valuation. This deal included some of Brewdog's bars and its Scottish brewing headquarters, but 38 other bars closed, resulting in 440 job losses.

Why this matters: The collapse of Brewdog, once valued at £1bn, highlights the financial risks even for well-known brands and impacts a wide range of businesses and organisations.
