Louisa Young, niece of Elizabeth Jane Howard, is set to continue her aunt's popular Cazalet Chronicles with a new trilogy. The original five-volume series, which fictionalised Howard's life experiences, concluded in 1958.

The Cazalet Chronicles, which began with 1990's The Light Years, became a global phenomenon, selling millions of copies and remaining continuously in print. The series is often described as a comfort read, despite exploring difficult themes such as rape, child abuse, and war.

Young, whose grandmother Kathleen Scott was Howard's mother-in-law, initially considered the idea of continuing the series as a joke. However, after receiving her cousin's blessing and support from her agent and Howard's original publishers and editors, the project moved forward.
