The M25 has been closed in both directions between junctions 22 and 21A following a large warehouse fire in St Albans, with authorities citing a risk of a "secondary explosion". Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue were called to the blaze in Ventura Park, Old Parkbury Lane, Colney Street, at 09:21 BST.
National Highways confirmed the motorway closure, stating that 15 fire crews are at the scene. The closure is due to the risk of a "secondary explosion, along with smoke and debris affecting the carriageway".
Hertfordshire Police also confirmed the M25 closure is a result of smoke from the warehouse fire. Additional road closures are in effect in St Albans, specifically at Colney Street and Old Parkbury Lane. People in the vicinity have been advised to keep doors and windows closed and to avoid the area.
National Highways noted that Network Rail has a representative on site, liaising with the fire service, due to the warehouse's proximity to the railway line. The fire service has received a significant number of calls regarding the incident, with firefighters reportedly "working hard to bring the situation under control".
