Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has expressed his sadness after the club informed him they were not in a position to offer him a new contract. The Argentina international, a £35m signing in 2023, is now in the final two years of his current deal at Anfield.
Mac Allister noted that while teammates like Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch have renewed their contracts, and the club spent over £200m on new signings, he was not offered an extension. He admitted there was a chance he could have left this summer, with Atletico Madrid among the interested clubs.
Despite the disappointment, Mac Allister affirmed his commitment to Liverpool, stating he will give "100 per cent until the last day I am here." He hopes his performance might lead the club to reconsider their decision.
