Scottish swimmer Keanna MacInnes powered through pre-race anxiety to secure a silver medal in the 100m butterfly final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Monday. The 24-year-old, who qualified third fastest, admitted to struggling with nerves throughout the day.
MacInnes clocked an impressive 57.33 seconds, shaving 0.35 seconds off her semi-final time. She told BBC Sport Scotland that advice from her coach, Bradley Hay, helped her to relax and enjoy the race, despite her earlier worries about securing a medley relay slot rather than a medal.
Starting in third position at the turn, MacInnes surged past South Africa's Erin Gallagher to claim the second spot on the podium. Australia's Alex Perkins secured the gold medal. Fellow Scottish swimmers Ciara Schlosshan and Lucy Grieve finished fifth and sixth respectively.
In other swimming news, Duncan Scott, who won gold in Friday's 200m individual medley, finished fourth in the 200m butterfly on Monday, following two relay near-misses over the weekend.
