Major disruption as grass fire halts all trains to Heathrow Airport

Train services to and from Heathrow Airport have been halted due to a trackside grass fire, causing severe delays and cancellations.

  • All lines are blocked between London Paddington and Heathrow terminals, as well as Reading.
  • Great Western Railway and Elizabeth line services to Heathrow are not running from Paddington.
  • The Piccadilly line to Heathrow also has delays.

All train services to and from Heathrow Airport have been halted following a trackside grass fire. National Rail has stated that "major disruption" is expected to continue until the end of Saturday, 5 September 2026.

The incident, which began shortly after 16:00 BST, has caused a failure of the electricity supply next to the track. This has resulted in all lines being blocked between London Paddington station and Heathrow's terminals, as well as Reading.

Great Western Railway has cancelled services to Reading, and no Elizabeth line or Heathrow Express services are running between Paddington and Heathrow on Saturday night. Passengers are advised by the airport to allow extra time for their journeys, noting that the Piccadilly line, which also serves the airport, is experiencing delays.

What this means for you: If you are travelling to or from Heathrow Airport, expect major disruption to train services. Consider alternative routes and allow extra time for your journey.
