Queensland police have stated that a man accused of raping and assaulting a young woman has been arrested after he returned to the crime scene in his vehicle later that evening. A woman, aged in her 20s, was allegedly stopped by the man and sexually assaulted while walking in the semi-rural Brisbane suburb of Brookfield at approximately 6:30 am on Thursday.

The woman told police her attacker fled on foot. Later that afternoon, police arrested a 32-year-old man from Raceview, near Ipswich, nearby. Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham told reporters on Friday that the attack was random and the alleged attacker had been on his way to work.

Massingham stated that police will allege the man drove back past the crime scene after completing work that day. Following an urgent public appeal for information on Thursday, two individuals provided dashcam footage that assisted the investigation. Officers identified a similar vehicle, followed it, and intercepted the man.

The man has been charged with six counts of rape, stalking, assault with intent to commit rape, assault causing bodily harm, and deprivation of liberty. Police said they will allege the man approached the woman from behind near the Brookfield Road bridge. The woman is reportedly being cared for by her family.
