Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has indicated that the club is unlikely to sign Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez before the deadline set by his former club. Chelsea had reportedly told potential buyers to pay their £120m asking price by 5pm on Friday to settle the Argentina midfielder’s future.

Despite this, Maresca expressed a desire to continue spending this summer, stating, “For sure there are things that we need to do, can be one can be two [new signings], it depends if they want to leave.” City are reportedly considering Fernandez and Morocco’s Ayyoub Bouaddi as potential midfield reinforcements.

The club has already brought in Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for a record £116m. Other arrivals include back-up goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli and teenage winger Jeremy Monga. City are also set to sell Tijjani Reijnders to Al Qadsiah for £51m.

Maresca's reign is set to begin with the Community Shield against Arsenal on Sunday, a match he views as a significant opportunity for silverware.
