A man has died and two other individuals were hospitalised after a collision involving three lorries and a car on the M6 northbound carriageway on Monday, 17 August 2026. Paramedics confirmed the driver of the car was found in a critical condition and pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident occurred at approximately 04:00 BST between junction 15 for Stoke-on-Trent and junction 16 for Talke Pits, according to National Highways. The southbound carriageway, which had been closed, reopened later that day, while the northbound carriageway was expected to remain shut into Monday evening.
West Midlands Ambulance Service reported that a second man, an HGV driver, was in a serious condition and received specialist trauma care before being taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. A third man, also an HGV driver, was treated for potentially serious injuries and transported to the same hospital. A fourth HGV driver was assessed but sustained no injuries and was discharged at the scene.
National Highways warned of delays exceeding an hour and six miles of congestion on the approach to the affected section of the motorway.
