Man dies, woman critically injured after police pursuit crash in Warwickshire

A man has died and a woman is critically injured following a police pursuit and subsequent crash in Warwickshire on Monday.

  • A male driver died at the scene after his Audi collided with a Ford Puma.
  • The female driver of the Ford Puma is in critical condition in hospital.
  • The Independent Office for Police Conduct has launched an independent investigation.

A man has died and a woman is in critical condition after a crash that followed a police pursuit in Warwickshire on Monday, 24 August 2026.

Warwickshire police stated that officers attempted to stop a black Audi on Birmingham Road, Stratford-upon-Avon, at 5.23pm. The male driver reportedly failed to stop and drove towards the A46.

The Audi driver then travelled back towards Stratford on the A439 Warwick Road, where he collided with a white Ford Puma at 5.44pm. Paramedics pronounced the Audi driver dead at the scene, while the Ford driver was taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition. Police confirmed that the families of those involved have been informed and are receiving specialist support.

A number of other vehicles were also damaged during the pursuit. Supt Steve Flavell confirmed that a mandatory referral was made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to a death occurring after police contact. The IOPC has declared an independent investigation, with Warwickshire police pledging full cooperation.
