Man rearrested after missing mother's remains found

Human remains discovered in London have been identified as Joanne Sheen, a mother-of-three who went missing in 2019. A 56-year-old man has been rearrested in connection with her death.

Human remains discovered in Feltham, London, have been identified as Joanne Sheen, a mother-of-three who was reported missing in February 2020. Ms Sheen, then aged 44, was last seen on 5 December 2019, travelling from Fareham to Southampton with a friend.

Metropolitan Police officers were called to Padstow Walk in Feltham on 12 August 2026, after bones were found in shrubland damaged by a fire a week earlier. The London Fire Brigade had attended a fire at Bedfont Pits on 5 August, which damaged approximately two hectares of shrubland.

A 56-year-old man from Southampton, who was first arrested in 2020, has been rearrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and further arrested on suspicion of murder. He has since been released on conditional bail. Another 56-year-old man from Southampton, previously arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder, was also released on bail.

Detectives in London have handed the investigation over to Hampshire Police following the identification of Ms Sheen's remains. Her disappearance had previously led to a major police investigation, with more than 4,000 lines of inquiry and over 300 statements taken.
