Manchester United have announced Eva Olid as their new women's manager, signing her on a two-year deal with an option for a further 12 months. Olid, 40, takes over from Marc Skinner, who left the role by mutual consent on Monday, just a month before the Women's Super League (WSL) season is due to start.

The Spaniard arrives at United after leading Hearts to their first Scottish Women's Premier League title last season. She also guided Hearts to their first domestic final, where they were defeated by Rangers in the 2024 Scottish Cup. Olid departed Edinburgh in the summer when her contract expired.

Olid expressed her excitement, stating, "The opportunity to become head coach of Manchester United Women is a dream come true." She added, "There is already so much talent within our squad and I am excited to work with the players to support them to fulfil their immense potential."

United's WSL season is scheduled to commence on 4 September with an away fixture against London City Lionesses.

Why this matters: The appointment of Eva Olid marks a new chapter for Manchester United Women, with immediate scrutiny expected as she aims to galvanise the squad and prepare for the upcoming WSL season.
