Manchester City has completed a substantial squad overhaul, with an estimated £750 million committed to player transfers across the last two windows. The final day of the transfer window saw the club secure Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for £125 million, a deal that reportedly became a joint British transfer record after negotiations on September 1st.
The midfield saw a £326 million revamp, with Fernandez joining Elliot Anderson, a £116 million acquisition, and Ayyoub Bouaddi, an £85 million arrival. Anderson was reportedly the club's first choice to replace Bernardo Silva, who left on a free transfer to Real Madrid. Bouaddi, an 18-year-old Morocco international, is expected to feature significantly this season and is considered the squad's only specialist No 6.
City's summer analysis also includes moves from the previous winter window, such as Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo. Guehi is seen as the successor to John Stones, who also departed on a free transfer. Semenyo is now considered the most likely player to operate as a centre-forward when Erling Haaland is unavailable.
The club's net spend for the summer window was £133 million, with around two-thirds of their £435 million expenditure recouped. Notable departures included Rodri, Silva, Stones, Ake, Reijnders, and Marmoush, contributing to a notably younger squad. City anticipates a potentially smaller outlay in the next summer window if their current influx of players proves successful.
