A manhunt is under way after Stephen Grzyb, 22, escaped from a GEOAmey van outside Liverpool Magistrates' Court on Saturday. Mr Grzyb was being transported from Belle Vale custody suite to the court to face burglary charges.
The escape occurred at approximately 10:00 BST as the van arrived outside the court building. Mr Grzyb reportedly fled down Red Cross Street towards the Strand.
Merseyside Police have described Mr Grzyb, of Princess Drive, as white with short dark hair, and he was last seen wearing a navy t-shirt and navy shorts. Patrols have been sent to the home of the alleged burglary victim to ensure her safety.
Insp Bethan Hannon urged the public to report any sightings to help bring Mr Grzyb back into custody. A police spokesperson also warned that assisting him in any way could lead to police involvement.
