Lisandro Martínez, the Manchester United defender, has issued an apology to the club's director of football, Jason Wilcox. The apology follows Martínez's earlier claims that Wilcox failed to adequately strengthen the squad during the summer transfer window.
The apology came on Thursday evening after discussions with manager Michael Carrick and an executive. Martínez had initially made his comments after Tuesday's 2-0 Champions League defeat to Atlético Madrid, and had not offered an apology in an initial statement on Wednesday.
In an Instagram post, Martínez stated: "Today I met with the club’s leadership and the manager. It was a very positive conversation, where we were able to exchange views and speak openly about what happened after Tuesday’s game." He added that the "frustration of the defeat led me to express how I felt at a time and place that perhaps were not the right ones, and for that I want to apologise."
While any disciplinary action taken by the club will not be made public, it is thought Martínez has been fined. The club reportedly spent £155m in the market, focusing on midfielders Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Baleba.
