Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez publicly aired his frustrations regarding the club's management and transfer strategy after their 2-0 Bigger Cup defeat against Atlético Madrid on Tuesday night. Martínez, speaking in a post-match interview, pointed to 'other areas' beyond the coach and players, widely interpreted as a reference to the club's hierarchy.
The Argentinian centre-half stated, "I expect more [investment], 100%. I expect more from our technical director [Jason Wilcox]. Last season we did everything, we created the base to create an amazing team. You can’t keep changing, changing, changing the manager. What about other areas? I can’t say more." He continued to criticise Wilcox and United's transfer policy in a subsequent interview.
While opinions on Martínez's public comments were mixed, some reports indicate that his views are shared by the majority of his teammates. There is speculation that Martínez could face a heavy price for his remarks, potentially including a hefty fine and an indefinite spell training with the youth squad.
