Mastodon has released their new album, 'Marrow Deep', today, Friday, August 28, five years after their previous record, 'Hushed And Grim'. The album arrives after a period of significant change and loss for the band.
Drummer and co-vocalist Brann Dailor spoke to NME about the album, which addresses themes of loss and heartache. The record follows the death of his mother and the unexpected passing of founding member, guitarist, and co-vocalist Brent Hinds, who died after a motorbike collision.
Hinds had parted ways with the band last March, leading to tensions and the enlistment of guitarist Nick Johnston. Dailor stated that the band channeled their grief into the new material, with the album focusing on loss, heartache, and finding hope. Collaborations on 'Marrow Deep' include Black Sabbath's Geezer Butler and Queens Of The Stone Age's Josh Homme.
