Grammy-winning metal band Mastodon is preparing to release their ninth studio album, 'Marrow Deep', which will address the recent deaths of co-founding guitarist and singer Brent Hinds and drummer Brann Dailor's mother, Michele Lawrence.
Hinds, 51, died in a motorcycle accident in March 2025, a month after the band announced their separation from him. Dailor's mother, Michele Lawrence, died in February 2025 at the age of 69.
The album's title, 'Marrow Deep', references Dailor's view that his relationships with Hinds and his mother were "the deepest you can get with a person." Lead single 'Your Ghost Again' explores the band's complex relationship with Hinds, while 'Out Like a Lamb' is dedicated to Lawrence.
Mastodon is currently nearing the end of a European tour, performing 22 shows across 14 countries. Bassist and co-lead singer Troy Sanders described the experience as "31 days of musical bliss."
