Max Weinberg, known for his drumming with the E Street Band, made a surprise appearance with King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard during their concert at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens on Friday, August 21.
Weinberg stepped in for his son, Jay Weinberg, a frequent collaborator with the band, who was in Nashville. Guitarist Joey Walker explained to the crowd that Jay Weinberg had called his father to fill in for him.
Max Weinberg, who travelled from Atlantic City, joined regular drummer Michael Cavanagh on stage to perform the song 'Hot Water' from King Gizzard's 2014 album, 'I’m in Your Mind Fuzz'. Jay Weinberg's cameos with the band have been a recurring feature since he first played with them at a Nashville show in 2024.
Earlier this month, King Gizzard released their 28th studio album, 'Alien Metal', which reportedly features a techno-driven sound. The band also withdrew their music from Spotify late last year, citing opposition to founder Daniel Ek's funding of the Helsing corporation, which develops AI for military operations.
