Matthew McConaughey has disclosed that he and Woody Harrelson have engaged in real-life fights, with their three-decade friendship seeing them 'butt heads' often. McConaughey stated that 'blood has been drawn' and that he sustained a chipped tooth and a cracked lip after Harrelson 'accidentally overswung' and hit him in the jaw.
Harrelson acknowledged that they 'butt heads' frequently but affirmed their strong bond, saying, 'We f***ing love each other.' He added that they typically 'hug it out' and 'mix a drink' afterwards.
The 'True Detective' co-stars are set to reunite in 'Brothers', an eight-episode Apple TV series. The show features them playing fictionalised versions of themselves, exploring a family mystery where they question if they could be brothers. The series is inspired by a real-life story involving McConaughey's mother, who reportedly told Harrelson in 2017 that she 'knew' his father around the time McConaughey was conceived.
McConaughey has stated he will not take a DNA test to confirm the story, citing concerns about learning that 'your dad's not your dad that you thought your dad was for 50 years'. He clarified that his reluctance is not related to Harrelson's father, Charles Harrelson, being a convicted contract killer.
