A Metropolitan Police officer has denied a charge of causing the death of a pregnant woman by dangerous driving. PC Chris Johnson, 56, pleaded not guilty at the Old Bailey in connection with the death of Mariam Ahmed, 38, in Eltham, south-east London, on 17 October 2024.
Ms Ahmed died after her Volkswagen Polo was involved in a collision with a police car. Her unborn child could not be saved.
Former PC Danny Tomkins, 35, also denied dangerous driving before the crash took place. Prosecutors allege both officers drove at over 70mph in a 30mph zone and overtook traffic on the wrong side of the road for approximately 130m.
The court heard that PC Johnson was allegedly travelling at about 50mph at the point of impact. Former PC Tomkins, whose vehicle was not involved in the collision, reportedly overtook Ms Ahmed at 78mph shortly before the crash.
Both men have been granted unconditional bail. They are scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey for a case management hearing on 8 January, with a trial date set for 7 June.
