Millions of households are being reminded to ensure they are named on their energy bill by 23 August to automatically receive the £150 Warm Home Discount this winter. The rebate is available to households where the billpayer receives means-tested benefits.
Around six million households across Britain are eligible for the discount, including approximately 250,000 in Scotland who will receive it automatically for the first time. The scheme was expanded last year, which meant nearly a million additional families with children received support.
In England and Wales, eligible households include those receiving Housing Benefit, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Pension Credit, and Universal Credit. The government advises that someone might not be named on their electricity bill if they have recently moved house.
Eligible customers using pre-payment meters with a key or card must also ensure their household's account is registered in their name. The Warm Home Discount scheme is set to continue through to 2030/1.
