Mind Robotics, an industrial AI and robotics venture that spun out of Rivian last year, has appointed Doug Field as its president. The announcement was made at Disrupt 2026.
Field has a background in electric vehicles, having worked at Ford and Tesla, and on Apple's car project. He will be responsible for the day-to-day aspects of Mind Robotics, including product, engineering, and operations.
Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe will continue to be involved with Mind Robotics. The company aims to automate industrial and manufacturing tasks at scale using purpose-built robots running on foundation models. Rivian is Mind Robotics' first customer and is being used as a manufacturing environment for model training and deployment.
Mind Robotics has received over $1 billion in backing from investors including Accel, Andreessen Horowitz, Eclipse, Kleiner Perkins, and the venture arms of Volkswagen and Salesforce.
