A judge declared a mistrial on Friday in the case of Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother accused of murdering her three children. Jurors, who had heard testimony from dozens of witnesses, deliberated for 40 hours but were unable to reach a unanimous decision.

The 36-year-old nurse's defence team contended she was suffering from postpartum psychosis when her children were strangled, arguing she could not be held criminally responsible. Conversely, the prosecution alleged the killings were intentional and calculated.

The trial, which lasted nearly seven weeks, has reportedly divided public opinion across the US, with debates centring on whether Clancy is a victim requiring mental health treatment or a criminal who should be imprisoned.
