A new offshore wind turbine facility is set to be established at the Port of Montrose, which is expected to support approximately 80 jobs. Engineering firm Subsea Micropiles will operate the factory, following a £5m investment from the company.
Further funding includes £6.7m from the state-owned Scottish National Investment Bank and £1.45m from Scottish Enterprise. The facility will manufacture components for offshore wind turbines in Scottish waters and for international markets.
First Minister John Swinney, during a visit to the Angus site, stated that the development would help ensure the "benefits of the energy transition are retained in Scotland." He also welcomed SSE's announcement that the Port of Montrose is its preferred location for an operations base for the Berwick Bank B offshore wind farm, which is anticipated to create an additional 100 jobs.
The Berwick project, described as one of the largest offshore wind farms globally, is projected to feature up to 307 turbines capable of generating enough electricity to power up to six million homes.
