Faiza Hassan, 36, from Dudley, has been charged with the murder of her 17-month-old daughter. She appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Thursday, where she was also accused of child cruelty towards the girl and eight counts of wounding with intent.
The girl's grandmother, Sahra Hassan, 61, from Walsall, is accused of child cruelty and allowing the death. Police were called to an address in Dudley on 9 April 2023, where the girl was pronounced dead later the same day.
A post-mortem examination established that the girl died after suffering a number of injuries, according to the West Midlands force. Faiza Hassan was remanded in custody, while Sahra Hassan was conditionally bailed. Both are due to appear at Wolverhampton Crown Court again on 9 October.
