Naga Munchetty is set to depart BBC Breakfast after 17 years to become a co-presenter on Radio 5 Live's breakfast show, with her new role beginning in January.

  • Naga Munchetty will join Radio 5 Live Breakfast as a co-presenter in January.
  • She has been part of the BBC Breakfast TV team for 17 years.
  • Current 5 Live Breakfast hosts Rachel Burden and Rick Edwards will step down in December.

Naga Munchetty is to leave BBC Breakfast after 17 years to take on a new role as co-presenter of Radio 5 Live’s breakfast show. Her move is scheduled for January, where she will join a new co-host who is yet to be recruited.

The current hosts of 5 Live Breakfast, Rachel Burden and Rick Edwards, announced on Tuesday that they would be stepping down from the programme in December. Burden will transition to presenting the weekday mid-morning programme, while Edwards will continue to host Fighting Talk.

Munchetty has presented 5 Live's weekday mid-morning programme since 2021. She expressed her excitement about the new opportunity, stating it was "too good to pass up."

The move follows reports of bullying allegations against Munchetty on the breakfast TV show. However, there is no suggestion that her departure is connected to these allegations.
