Fans of the zombie apocalypse can rejoice as Netflix has confirmed it will be the new streaming home for The Walking Dead universe until 2032. The global deal includes the original series and all six of its spin-offs, making them available in territories including the United Kingdom and the United States.
According to the Radio Times, the contract between Netflix and AMC Global Media, the show's original broadcaster, is reportedly worth around $500 million (£390m). The entire Walking Dead universe currently spans 371 episodes.
Lori Conkling, vice president of licensing at Netflix, stated that audiences have enjoyed The Walking Dead on the platform for nearly 15 years and it continues to attract new fans. She added that Netflix is excited to partner with AMC Global Media to expand access to the entire universe globally.
New episodes within the franchise continue to arrive. Norman Reedus recently concluded his 16-year portrayal of Daryl Dixon, with the fourth and final season of his spin-off, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, wrapping production earlier this month. This eight-episode final season is scheduled to premiere this autumn, bringing Dixon's journey to a close after he was found ashore in post-apocalyptic France.
