The new true-crime documentary series, 'Don't Date Brandon', has been described as 'lazy and misguided' after its initial episode was made available for review. The programme, which is based on the podcast 'Ex-Wives Undercover', focuses on the experiences of women who were in toxic relationships.
The series centres on Amber Rasmussen and Athena Klingerman, who both had relationships with Brandon Johnson. Rasmussen, who met Johnson online at 35 and became his second wife, eventually contacted Klingerman after experiencing 'red flags' in her own relationship. They subsequently uncovered a 'web of lies' told by Johnson, including fabricated messages and false claims about his job and a cancer diagnosis.
Johnson was charged with assault and attempted kidnapping with intent to commit rape. He accepted a plea agreement and is currently serving a 10-year sentence in a state prison. He is eligible for parole in 2027.
