Family Nursing and Home Care, a charity, hopes new equipment will improve access to breastfeeding support services. The charity has acquired 10 hospital-grade breast pumps and single-use pump kits.
A specialist maternity recliner chair has also been purchased for a new breastfeeding and infant feeding clinic at Pathways. This clinic will offer an additional location for support in the east of the island.
The charity stated that the initiative aims to support families with feeding difficulties, premature births, or delayed milk supply, and could assist up to 160 mothers. Funding for the hospital-grade pumps came from the Jersey Community Foundation, while the Coop Community Fund helped finance the recliner chair.
The charity is also raising awareness for World Breastfeeding Week, which runs until 7 August. Debra Hennessy of Family Nursing and Home Care described the week as "an opportunity to celebrate breastfeeding and recognise the importance of ensuring families have access to the support they need".
