A new French comedy film, "Comédie Française," directed by Bertrand Usclat and Martin Darondeau, has been described as a "hoot." The film challenges the notion that French comedies are not funny, according to a recent review.
The farce is set entirely within a Parisian institution, depicting the three hours leading up to the opening night of a Macbeth production. Pauline Clément plays Nina, an actor who has turned director, as she navigates a series of pre-show catastrophes.
These challenges include Nina arriving without her staff pass, superstitious and adulterous actors, a stoned grande dame played by Danièle Lebrun, and missing cast members. Sefa Yeboah, Christian Hecq, and Florence Viala also feature in the film, which portrays the efforts of French theatrical figures to ensure the show goes on.
