Authorities are investigating a possible new ransom note in connection with the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, who went missing from her Arizona home nearly eight months ago. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department announced on Monday that it, along with the FBI Guthrie taskforce, was recently made aware of the potential note and related social media comments.
Investigators are working to determine the credibility of this new note. Officials have not yet released details on how the note was found or its contents.
In July, authorities released details of two initial ransom notes sent to a Tucson television station shortly after Guthrie, the mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, disappeared on February 1. The first note, sent on February 2, claimed Nancy Guthrie was safe and would be released for $4 million in cryptocurrency. A second note, sent on February 6, stated that Guthrie had died shortly after being kidnapped. Authorities have not confirmed whether Guthrie is still alive.
No suspects have been arrested in the case, which has been marked by unanswered questions regarding the number of people involved in her abduction and whether she was taken by someone she knew. The FBI previously released surveillance videos showing a masked individual reportedly tampering with a camera on Nancy Guthrie’s front porch.
