Two US Navy aviators ejected from their aircraft on Monday while attempting to land on the USS Dwight D Eisenhower aircraft carrier off the coast of Virginia. Naval officials described the incident as a “mishap”.

The aviators, assigned to Carrier Air Wing 3, were rescued by search and rescue personnel and returned to the ship for medical evaluation. Four sailors onboard the vessel also received medical care, with one transported to a hospital in the Norfolk, Virginia, area for non-life-threatening injuries.

The Navy has not disclosed the type of two-seater plane involved, its condition, or the cause of the incident.
