Nicholas Hoult cast as Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter TV series

English actor Nicholas Hoult will play Gilderoy Lockhart in the new Harry Potter TV series, joining the cast for season two.

Nicholas Hoult, known for roles in X-Men and Superman, has been cast as Hogwarts professor Gilderoy Lockhart in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series. The 36-year-old English actor will make his appearance in season two of the show.

HBO announced Hoult's casting by quoting a line from Lockhart's autobiography, "Magical me indeed. Now, how many autographs would you like? Nicholas Hoult has been cast as Gilderoy Lockhart in season two of the new HBO original Harry Potter series."

The TV adaptation of JK Rowling's books is expected to span a decade. The first season, named Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, is scheduled to launch on HBO Max on 25 December.

Hoult's previous work includes starring alongside Hugh Grant in About A Boy and playing Lex Luthor in a recent Superman film. He was also nominated for an Emmy for The Great.
