Team Northern Ireland's Kate O'Connor is firmly on track for a Commonwealth Games gold medal, maintaining her lead in the heptathlon with just one event left in Glasgow. O'Connor, 25, has accumulated 5611 points after strong performances in the long jump and javelin.

O'Connor significantly increased her advantage on Wednesday morning, now standing 258 points clear of England's Jade O'Dowda, who is currently second overall. O'Connor topped the standings in both the long jump with a 6.37m leap and the javelin, throwing a season's best 52.85m.

The heptathlon will conclude this evening with the 800m event, scheduled for 20:55 BST at Scotstoun Stadium.
