An off-duty Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official was shot in California early on Friday morning, 9 October 2026, after allegedly assaulting a 72-year-old man and his daughter on their property, local authorities have stated.

The Fresno police department confirmed that the ICE official, identified as David Gonzalez, was receiving medical care after being shot in the midsection. Police said Gonzalez is facing felony charges for assaulting the father and daughter.

According to Fresno police, a woman found Gonzalez sleeping on her and her father’s front lawn at approximately 3am. After being awakened, Gonzalez reportedly appeared "intoxicated and agitated" and physically assaulted the 72-year-old father, forcing him to the ground. When the daughter intervened, Gonzalez also physically attacked her.

Police said the father, fearing for his and his daughter’s physical safety, shot Gonzalez once. The daughter's boyfriend, an off-duty police officer, arrived shortly after and placed handcuffs on Gonzalez. Police stated that the father and daughter were not booked with any crimes.
