Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi recently led the BBC Symphony Orchestra in a performance at the Royal Albert Hall, London. Järvi, who is set to become the conductor of the London Philharmonic in 2028, demonstrated calm and clarity on the podium.
The concert featured Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos, who delivered a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. Kavakos's dexterity reportedly made light work of the challenging piece, drawing applause mid-cadenza.
The programme also included the world premiere of Dani Howard’s Concerto for Brass, subtitled 'Signal'. This was followed by Scriabin’s Second Symphony, which Järvi allowed to unfold naturally while also conveying emotional depth.
