British participation in London's inaugural professional padel tournament ended on Wednesday night. Home favourite Christian Medina Murphy, one of 11 British players in the London P1 event, marked the occasion with a victory on Tuesday.
Medina Murphy and his Spanish partner Alberto Garcia Jimenez defeated Agustin Gutierrez and Santino Giuliani 6-2 6-2. However, they were subsequently defeated in the last-32 on Wednesday by 10th seeds Juan Tello and Maxi Arce.
Despite the British exit, Sela, the organisers of London P1, are considering further investment in the sport in the UK. Sela's chief growth officer, Luke Lloyd-Davies, stated that they want to expand and invest in the sport, making it sensible to invest in British talent. The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), the national governing body for padel, is also working with Sela.
Tickets for the final four days at Olympia sold out quickly, and the refurbished Kensington venue has seen a buzz. Lloyd-Davies has begun planning improvements for future events.
