Interim Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson has commented that his players are used to "chaos" after seven players were dropped and seven others called up for the final Test against England. Pakistan made these significant changes following their losses in the first two Tests of the series.
Hesson, who is Pakistan's white-ball coach, has been temporarily appointed to lead the Test team for the third match at Edgbaston, which is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, 9 September. He had previously been in Japan preparing for the Asian Games and was only due to travel to the UK for the squad's audience with King Charles.
Hesson clarified the process of the squad changes, stating that three senior players – batters Imam-ul-Haq and Salman Ali Agha, along with wicketkeeper Muhammad Rizwan – were removed from the party before he took over. He then made further changes to the bowling attack based on conditions at Edgbaston.
Among the new additions are batters Saim Ayub and Abdullah Fazal, both with previous Test experience, alongside five uncapped players. Hesson also addressed reports that Salman Ali Agha refused to attend the meeting with King Charles, explaining that Salman was among the trio of players dropped before the meeting and was therefore removed from the list of attendees.
