Kendal Archer, a mother of two from Exeter, has expressed her view that the burden of avoiding 'forever chemicals' should not fall on parents. Writing in a letter, Archer reacted to an article published on 24 July linking prenatal and early-life exposure to PFAS with higher levels of intestinal inflammation in children.
Archer stated that the suggested solutions, such as using water filtration systems, buying organic food, and avoiding waterproof clothing and stain guards, are systemic issues that should not be the responsibility of working families. She questioned the affordability of such measures for many.
According to Archer, it is the government's responsibility to legislate on these issues, big agriculture's responsibility to avoid covering food in chemicals, and water companies' responsibility to ensure clean water.
