Paul McCartney has reportedly voiced concerns to director Sam Mendes regarding his portrayal in the upcoming Beatles biopics, specifically objecting to being depicted as shorter than John Lennon. McCartney texted Mendes after seeing published shots of actors recreating the Abbey Road album cover, which suggested Harris Dickinson, playing Lennon, appeared taller than Paul Mescal's McCartney.

According to McCartney's account on Amy Poehler’s podcast, his text to Mendes read, “Sam! Smaller? Don’t do this! You said you wouldn’t do it!” McCartney asserted that he, Lennon, and George Harrison were all approximately the same height, with Ringo Starr being slightly shorter.

Mendes reportedly responded by assuring McCartney that the perceived height difference was due to the actors' strides in the particular shot. He also sent another image that showed both actors appearing equally tall.
