The trial for a man charged in connection with an alleged bomb hoax at a Peter Kay performance has been postponed until May next year. Omar Majed, 20, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court via video-link from hospital.
Mr Majed is charged with communicating false information to police, following the evacuation of the Utilita Arena in Birmingham during a Peter Kay show on 1 May. West Midlands Police conducted searches after a report of a suspicious bag, but nothing suspicious was found.
Judge Andrew Smith KC stated that the trial, which had been scheduled for 3 November, will now be listed for 17 May 2027, with an estimated duration of eight days. The delay is to allow for further investigation work. A pre-trial review hearing is set for 16 April to consider expert reports.
