Tyrell Cambridge, a 20-year-old workshop technician in Peterborough, volunteers as a firefighter for the Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade (PVFB). Mr Cambridge, who fixes vehicles by day, joined the charity over a year ago.
He recently assisted with the major wildfire at Holme Fen, which began on 8 August. Mr Cambridge stated he could see the large amount of smoke from the fire on his way to the station.
PVFB is one of the few operational volunteer brigades in the UK, with its two fire engines crewed by volunteers who provide their service without charge. Mr Cambridge noted that volunteers must be prepared to respond at any moment, even if it means interrupting dinner or sleep.
